Because both a pastor's physical and spiritual well-being is important, Joshua Levering of Baltimore, president of the Board of Trustees, donated $10,000 to erect a gymnasium for students and faculty of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. The seminary completed Levering Gymnasium in 1897.
